Formed in 1978, the Kendall County 4-H Horse Club is chartered under Texas 4-H and is a 501 (c ) 3 non-profit organization registered with the Texas Secretary of State. The 4-H Horse Club membership is composed of eligible youth and the Club is managed by adult volunteers comprising a board of directors elected by the membership.
The horse project offers youth horse enthusiasts several opportunities to get involved and teaches youth responsibility and commitment. The time invested in riding, caring for, and training horses improves the quality of life for children.
Many students compete in youth rodeo events to test the skills of both the horse and rider. There are also horse show competitions for halter and performance horses that are open to youth exhibitors. Other educational contests like horse judging and the horse quiz bowl make an exciting learning experience.
Until 2016, the Club’s home was the 4-H Horse Club Arena located at Herff Park on land provided by the Kendall County Fair Association.

4-h History
With historical roots dating from 1902, 4-H is the nation’s largest youth development organization, empowering six million young people throughout the United States. Through America’s 110 land-grant universities and its Cooperative Extension System, 4-H reaches every corner of our nation—from urban neighborhoods to suburban schoolyards to rural farming communities.
4-H youth are:
- Four times more likely to make contributions to their communities (Grades 7-12)
- Two times more likely to be civically active (Grades 8-12)
- Two times more likely to make healthier choices (Grade 7)
- Two times more likely to participate in Science, Engineering and Computer Technology programs during out-of-school time (Grades 10 – 12)
- 4-H girls are two times more likely (Grade 10) and nearly three times more likely (Grade 12) to take part in science programs compared to girls in other out-of-school time activities.
